Description

Set in the 1950’s when Los Angeles was still segregated and South Central was considered the Harlem of the West, this coming-of- age tale starts with Joe who inherits his late father’s passion for jazz even as the art form fades under rock and roll’s ascendancy. When he and his high school jazz quartet buddies leave their sheltered white community in Pasadena to hear their idol Pope Dixon perform at the Tri Tone on L.A.’s Central Avenue, their Friday night journey into the black neighborhood leads to some life-changing encounters and insight about the African- American roots of Jazz.
