Description

The full life of legendary singer, dancer, comic, actor and all-around entertainer Sammy Davis, Jr., takes center stage in this documentary about the ups and downs of his life and career. Already performing at the age of three, Davis blazed trails as one of the first black performers to break into the white entertainment world, and who took political stands that inspired and infuriated friends and foes alike. Accomplished editor, director and longtime Spike Lee collaborator Sam Pollard compiles rarely seen footage of Davis’ life, along with interviews with those who knew and loved him — including Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg, Quincy Jones, Jerry Lewis, Kim Novak and more — to tell the story of an American icon who often paid a price for being a true original individual.
