An undercover detective takes on a case that may spell his doom in Honeygiver Among the Dogs. From director Dechen Roder (a Macalester graduate in her feature film debut), the film’s protagonist is the disgruntled detective Kinley, a brow-beaten man who has seen the worst of humanity and lived through it.
Assigned the case of a missing monk, Kinley goes to a remote village in Bhutan to uncover the truth, instead crossing paths with the enigmatic and enchanting Choden, a young woman who is said to be the local “demoness.” The truth about Choden’s involvement in the crime becomes increasingly less clear as the man’s infatuation with her leads them both down a path from which there may be no return.
Dechen Roder was born in Bhutan and went to school at Macalester College in St Paul, graduating in 2004 with a degree in History. She has since returned to Bhutan and produced numerous short films and documentaries, with Honeygiver Among The Dogs marking her feature-film debut. Along with writing and directing, she also co-founded the Beskop Teshechu Short Film Festival in Bhutan.
