Description

Tickets to Rochester screenings will be sold at the door.

12-year-old Niilas is a city boy living with his father in Belgium. Against his wishes, Niilas must spend his summer vacation with his estranged Swedish mother who has been living in Lapland, herding reindeer with the indigenous Sami people. Struggling to cope with an unfamiliar family in a remote environment, Niilas retreats inwards. The only ones who can get through to him are his younger half-siblings, Sunnà and Pontus, whose outdoor adventures lure him away from his electronic devices.

Still, Niilas’ inner struggles keep him in a state of rebellion against his mother’s life and eventually get the better of him. After causing a reindeer to run off, Niilas heads into the forest on a quest to return the missing animal to the herd. Losing himself deep in the wilderness, Niilas must find a way to restore peace with his mother, himself, and nature.

Meikeminne Clinckspoor Meikeminne Clinckspoor decided at a young age that she wanted to make children's movies. After a theater education in Amsterdam, she started a film education in 2004 at the film school KASK, where she graduated in 2009 and premiered her short children’s film De Wensboom, which was supported by Jekino Distribution, known as a Belgian distributor for quality children’s film.
