Becoming Who I Was follows young Padma Angdu, a Ladakhi boy who, at 5 years old, began sharing “memories” of his past life as a Tibetan monk. Presumed to be the monk’s fated reincarnation, Angdu is given the title of Rinpoche—or “Living Buddha”—and set on the path of reclaiming his previous life. He is guided by traditional doctor and godfather Urgyan Rickzen, and together they make for a charming pair as they face the daunting task of traveling from Northern India to Tibet in order to fulfill his spiritual heritage.
Told with an earnest sincerity, young Angdu’s journey to merge the life he had lived with the life he is currently living centers mainly on the relationship between Angdu and Rickzen and the loving, familial bond that results from it rather than trying to prove the validity of the claim itself.
Both from South Korea, Moon Chang-yong has worked in the documentary film industry since 1998, while Jeon Jin has worked prominently as a director and producer in the South African television industry. Together, they have collaborated on several films, including 1 Hectare of Happiness ('14) and Becoming Who I Was ('17).
