Description

Brilliantly adapted from Polish gynecologist and sexologist Michalina Wislocka’s own biography, The Art of Loving chronicles the life and career of a woman who inspired a revolution. Directed by Maria Sadowska, the film follows Wislocka through the research, release and rise of her self-help book The Art of Love, which would become a history-making text that overhauled how sex was viewed in Poland and the wider world. Opening up the conversation about love, sex and relationships, Wislocka’s work revolutionized Polish society, breaking down the barriers around “taboo” subjects in order to educate and enlighten.

The film, set across three decades, the 40s, the 50s, and the 70s, charts Wislocka’s road to publishing her book, through oppressive stereotypes, fear and ignorance. Wislocka’s work would open up discussions on intimacy and sexuality in a world that had kept both hidden.
