Description

A mother-daughter road trip drama, Laura Scheoder’s Barrage explores the process of healing the emotional wounds of not only circumstance, but time. After a decade away, Catherine returns to Luxembourg with the intention of reconnecting with her daughter Alba, who has been raised by Catherine’s mother, Elisabeth (Isabelle Huppert). As Catherine’s past unfolds, her strained relationship with Elisabeth and developing relationship with Alba take center stage. On impulse, Catherine whisks her daughter away, kidnapping the young girl in a desperate effort to make up for lost time.

With three generations of women at the forefront of this drama, Catherine’s decision to run away with Alba spurs an emotional journey of loss and love. Schroeder’s earnest storytelling provides a window into the fragile but influential bonds between mothers and daughters, and the measures one may take to repair them.

Press

"The film is more of a character study than a full-fledged family drama, though one that benefits from strong, naturalistic performances by cast members that seem to know one another all too well." - Hollywood Reporter
