Description

A drama from Cannes Grand Prix winner Xavier Bervois, The Guardians is set during World War I and follows the women of the Paridier family. On their farm in rural France, they work to defend their home against hardship and attacks while the men of the family are away at the front lines of the War.

Adapted from author Ernest Perchon’s 1924 novel of the same name, The Guardians showcases a roster of stellar performances from actors Nathalie Baye as the family matriarch Hortense, Laurie Smet as daughter Solange and Iris Bry as a young farmhand named Francine. A transitionary narrative, The Guardians follows Hortense, Solange and Francine through their lives apart from the men of the family as well as during the reunion and its aftermath, where it becomes heartbreakingly clear that nothing will ever be the same.
