Due to weather, the April 14, 9:40pm screening of Gutland at St. Anthony Main Theatre has been postponed. New screening date/time: May 2 at 4:30pm.
Jens, a German drifter, hopes for a reprieve from the road by taking shelter in the small Luxembourg town of Schandelsmillen. A petty thief, Jens (played by Frederick Lau) is at first not welcomed in the town. Dejected, he goes to the local beer hall and meets the mayor’s daughter Vicky, a single mother who charms him into bed. The next morning, Jens is greeted with open arms, offered a job, and appears by all accounts to have been given a new life in Schandelsmillen. But not long after, he discovers that these gifts may be too good to be true.
Sent down a rabbit hole of secrets, Jen spirals into a world he never knew existed beneath the rural town. A gripping thriller, Gutland, from Govina Van Mael, is a bone-chilling meditation on secrecy that seizes audiences until its bitter end.
