Special Guests Jordan Fein & Hunter Robert Baker Attending April 22 + 23
From the Emmy-winning filmmaking duo Hunter Robert Baker and Jordan Fein, The Blessing follows a Navajo family in rural Arizona where the primary industry of coal mining is destroying the mountains held sacred to the community.
Set over five years, we follow a family through injuries, developing identities and life changes. A coal miner grapples with raising his teenage daughter underneath the weight of his guilt for the spiritual sacrifice he makes to provide for his family. His daughter, a young woman with her own secrets, forges her own path, playing on the boy’s football team while competing for homecoming queen.
The Blessing is an intimate, and ultimately uplifting, portrayal of a family within the Navajo Nation that touches upon environmental discussions as a means to inform of the effect the mining industry has had on local families.
