Description

Love knows no bounds in Disobedience, Academy Award-winning director Sebastián Lelio’s (A Fantastic Woman) moving drama that centers on the bond between two childhood friends and the liminal place where forgiveness and acceptance reside.

A 32-year-old woman, Ronit Krushna (played effortlessly by Rachel Weisz) goes back to the Orthodox Jewish community in England that once banished her for the attraction she had once felt for her friend. Spurred by the death of her father, a rabbi, Ronit finds herself open to reconnecting with the life she left behind. However, when she returns, she is startled to find that her childhood friend and lover Esti (Rachel McAdams) is married to her cousin Dovid. Despite this, Esti finds herself drawn again to Ronit. Their passion is rekindled and they find themselves at risk of discovery by the community and by Dovid. Weisz and McAdams are marvelous as a couple who finds strength within each other to not only explore, but defend the blossoming love between them.

Press

"Beautifully acted by Rachel Weisz, Rachel McAdams and Alessandro Nivola as the three points of a melancholy romantic triangle, this is a deeply felt drama that exerts a powerful grip." - Hollywood Reporter
