Description

Loosely inspired by the 1963 novel of the same name by Beppe Fenoglio, Rainbow: A Private Affair tells the story of a young man, Milton, who falls madly in love with a beauty named Fulvia. Told in flashback, Milton reflects on the summer they spent together in the countryside as he is caught in the malaise of World War II. But his memory is threatened by the discovery that his friend and fellow partisan fighter, Giorgio may have gone behind his back with Fulvia. When Giorgio is captured, Milton sets out to rescue him, torn by loyalty, betrayal and the desperate desire for the truth.

A film from brothers and filmmaking legends Paolo and Vittorio Taviani, Rainbow: A Private Affair captures the spirit of young adulthood within the context of war, while also reflecting on the nature of jealousy, obsession and suspicion.

"At once a summing-up of the Tavianis' filmmaking and an affirmation of their unshaken belief that human life is an uneasy compromise between the private and political spheres." - Hollywood Reporter
