26-year-old Keith (McCaul Lombardi) is now a free man. No longer under house arrest, Keith can now roam the Baltimore streets from which his crimes first arose. His father Carol (Jim Belushi) is skeptical about his son’s return to normalcy but supports him even as Keith begins to drift into old ways. While old gang ties threaten to draw him right back into the fold, Keith halfheartedly takes online courses to become an air conditioning engineer to appease his father.
Although his initial crime is never revealed, Keith’s aimlessness puts him at risk of picking up right where he left off, and it is only through his relationship to other characters—his overwhelmed sister, his grandmother, a young art student—that Keith’s road forward, or back, begins to take shape. Alongside Lombardi and Belushi is a talented cast, including Zazie Beetz, Tom Guiry, and Marin Ireland, that brings Sollers Point to powerful, vivid life.
Director Biography
American independent filmmaker Matthew Porterfield was born in 1977 in Baltimore, Maryland. He is a graduate of the Tisch School of Arts and New York University, and has produced four feature-length films, including Hamilton (‘06), Putty Hill (‘11), I Used To Be Darker (‘13) and Sollers Point.
