Silicon Beach is a retelling of The Odyssey by way of an "unremarkable" actor who got cut from the hottest Netflix show. Lost at sea and with no resume to grab hold of, Lucas takes a temp job at a LA tech startup called Roomie. He is psychologically adrift, constantly struggling with his relationship to women. Ultimately the connections he makes with his eccentric coworkers are what bring him back to shore.
Set and shot on the brink of the 2016 presidential election, Silicon Beach is a story of millennial malaise turned to disillusionment. Lucas and his coworkers' experience echo our national denial of reality in favor of a narcissistic illusion.
Director Biography
Max Gold is a Los Angeles based writer/director. His upcoming sci-fi pilot Surfer's Paradise (in post-production) is the story of a human caught in a love triangle between two Artificial Intelligence, in a post-singularity future. His upcoming feature film, BEAST (in development) is a darker take on Beauty and the Beast shot entirely in Iceland. Though he works across genres, Gold will never stop wrestling with love, and the haunting nostalgia that follows it.
In 2017 Gold’s films not only screened internationally, but he presented the short film/proof of concept for BEAST to the Assisi Conference in Mystic, Connecticut. In July of 2018, Gold will be presenting the film again at the VIII Latin American Congress of Jungian Psychology in Bogota, Columbia.
