A touching and inspiring biopic of Swedish writer, Astrid Lindgren, the author of numerous children's books and creator of Pippi Longstocking.
Director Pernille Fischer Christensen chronicles the early life of Astrid Lindgren, documenting her introduction to professional authorship and how the tribulations of her early life helped to inspire her to reject societal norms and follow her dream. When at the age of 18 Astrid becomes pregnant with the child of her married newspaper editor, she must contend with the social implications of having a child born out of wedlock in 1920’s Sweden. Becoming Astrid demonstrates how the sacrifices she made in order to support herself, helped her to develop into the beloved storyteller that she is remembered as today.
