Description

Winner of the Jury Prize and the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, Capernaum, a new film by Nadine Labaki (Caramel), chronicles the journey of a clever, gutsy 12-year-old, Zain, who survives the danger of the city streets by his wits. He flees his parents and to assert his rights, takes them to court suing them for the “crime” of giving him life. While steeped in the quiet routines of ordinary people, Lebanon’s Oscar nominee is - like the neo-realist classics of De Sica and Rossellini - a film with an expansive palette: without warning it can ignite with emotional intensity, surprise with unexpected tenderness, and inspire with flashes of poetic imagery.

Skype Q&A with director Nadine Labaki - first Arab woman nominated for an Oscar - Tuesday 2/5 after the 6:30 pm show.
