Panel Discussion 1 – Ocean Climate Forum
Saturday, March 9th
11:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Host & Moderator: Jonathan Knowles, Explorer and Scientist
Participants: Elaine Forbes, Director, Port of SF & Whitney Berry, Climate Change Program Manager, California Ocean Protection Council and Jonathan Foley, Executive Director of Project Drawdown

Ocean-based impacts of climate change (stronger cyclones and sea level rise among others) pose a particularly salient threat to coastal infrastructure. Conversely, protecting ocean ecosystems to reduce carbon-intensive long distance fishing, and to maintain carbon capture capacity of critical ecosystems like mangroves, seagrass meadows and coral reefs, is critical to climate change mitigation. We'd like to give place to this discussion given the crucial importance of the climate-ocean nexus and to look ahead to COP25 as Chile, a  global leader in marine conservation, will host that climate conference.
