Following the death of her father, 17-year-old Sole is sent from New York to Los Angeles to live with her estranged Grandma Irene (captivatingly played by Emmy Award-winner Lynn Whitfield) in this inspired coming-of-age drama. Sole is a dedicated activist artist, determined to break free of this familial stranger with whom she instantly clashes. With the help of two teenage neighbors who become her misfit friends, she plots her escape through a collaborative art project that leads them on a startling path to self-discovery. Sole’s struggles with her new environment and an omnipresent eating disorder mirror the hypnotizingly beautiful avant-garde mood of the film that promises great things from first-time director Tchaiko Omawale.  Cast: Lynn Whitfield, Hope Olaide Wilson, Chelsea Tavares, Luke Rampersad, Glynn Turman. (USA, 2018, 81 min., Drama) Preceded by Tadpole.
