Description

It shouldn’t take an interpreter to understand the meaning of the poem at the base of the Statue of Liberty, where Lady Liberty is referred to as “The Mother of Exiles.” Native Iraqi and Afghani interpreters, who have risked their lives to assist the U.S. Military’s war effort, are now hoping that the country honors that code and grants them asylum in the US. The filmmakers keep you guessing as to the final outcome in this real-life thriller that follows three men and their families who are trying to escape from their own countries where they are now considered traitors and fear for their lives. This documentary brings the real human stories of these unsung heroes to the screen as a replacement for detached ideologies. (USA, 2018, 76 min., Documentary) Preceded by Rebuilding in Miniature.
