On an August night in 2012 in the town of Steubenville, Ohio, high school football stars sexually assaulted a girl and the entire evening was documented on social media. While the film singles out the boys who did it, the more serious implication is the indictment of the complicit community in this town where football is king and it is commonly understood that “boys will be boys.” While the town tried to keep the crisis quiet, cycles of cover-up and victim blaming were revealed by an amateur true crime journalist who documented and exposed the truth in her blog, only to be vilified for doing so. The film is captivating as it reveals atrocious pervasive truths that permeate our society. (USA, 2018, 80 min., Documentary) Preceded by What Was the Question?
