Description

Judge Juan Guzmán Tapia spent years investigating Chilean dictator General Augusto Pinochet Ugarte and his subordinates.  Although Pinochet died without being convicted, Guzmán successfully used the doctrine of permanent kidnapping to demonstrate that there is no impunity for human rights violations.  Guzmán also criticized the inactions of Chilean judges during the 17-year Military Dictatorship. It is through the courageous actions of one jurist that the Chilean judiciary began its journey to redemption.  This film explores some of the provocative thoughts of this legendary human rights crusader in the context of today’s flourishing democracy in the Andean country.
