Description

A quiet thriller that builds on the tension of the moment, Yeo Siew Hua's A Land Imagined follows hapless investigator Lok (TV star Peter Yu) as he takes on the case of a missing mainland Chinese worker named Wang, who disappeared after a string of onsite incidents along with his coworker, Ajit. Weaving the present day investigation with the experiences that led up to Wang's disappearance, the film dares Lok, as well as the audience, to consider present day Singapore, its connections to China and the conditions of its migrant workforce. But just as the film settles into reality, dreamlike visions bleed into the narrative, calling into question what is real and what is not and blurring the lines of Lok's less-than-clear-cut investigation.
