Description

Filmmaker attending.

This eye-opening documentary tells the startling history of slavery and human trafficking in the Thai fishing industry. With demand high, traffickers abduct men from Cambodia, Bangladesh and Myanmar and force them to work with little chance of escape. Ghost Fleet examines the complicated web of corruption that has so far kept the majority of the enslaved workers from reclaiming their freedom. As the slavery and human rights abuses continue, activist Patima Thungprachayaku and her team work to rescue the workers, covertly docking their boats on Indonesian ports for rescue operations. An ongoing humanitarian issue, Ghost Fleet implores audiences to examine the true price of the Thai seafood industry and of global systems that frequently sacrifice ethics (and human lives) in order to keep up with demand.
