Actress Behnaz Jafari and director Jafar Panahi join forces to get to the bottom of a mystery surrounding a internet video of a girl named Marziyeh pleading for help because her family prevented her from leaving her home village to study at the Tehran drama conservatory. While the footage alludes to Marziyeh's suicide, Jafari is not convinced, and enlists Panahi to help her get to the the bottom of Marziyeh's story. Jafari's and Panahi's search for the girl takes them to the Turkish-Azeri village where the girl supposedly lives. Once there, they encounter the locals and their culture for the first time. With the mystery of the girl's whereabouts a constantly evolving thread, Jafari and Panahi come to understand the importance of tradition within the community, which comes at the cost of female agency and freedom.
