Description

A brilliantly crafted documentary from Danish filmmaker Mads Brügger, Cold Case Hammarskjöld follows the investigation of the 1961 plane crash that killed UN Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld, a case that went cold until 2019. Over the course of the film, the truth of the crash soon becomes increasingly riddled with shocking discoveries and talk of covert operations that had for decades gone unnoticed; namely, the involvement of Belgian mercenaries and secret South African militia. Although the log book of the crash didn't name a culprit, conflicting details in the investigation cause a stir amongst those following the case. While the case had long been overwrought with conspiracy theories, support to reopen it eventually prompts the UN to act, believing that the Hammarskjöld's crash (which coincided with 15 others), was no accident, but an assassination.
