In Matteo Garrone's latest film, Dogman, Marcello is an Italian dog groomer with a seemingly charmed life. He is well-liked by his community and family; and his business, entitled "Dogman," is modestly successful. However, Marcello struggles to keep up with the lavish lifestyle his family has grown accustomed to, and so sells cocaine on the side to make ends meet. One of his customers is former boxer Simoncino. A lumbering and brutish force of nature, Simoncino maintains a twisted friendship with Marcello that regularly walks the line into abuse. As Simoncino's cruelty becomes an increasingly dominating factor in his life and that of the community, Marcello becomes fed-up with this situation and resolves to take matters into his own hands. Will this story of revenge come out in Marcello's favor, or will Simoncino once again brutalize his way to the top?
