From German director Thomas Stuber, In the Aisles is a film true to its name. Set in the aisles of a wholesale supermarket, the story centers on Christian (Franz Rogowski), a newly hired shelf-stacker whose life is in flux after losing his previous job. As Christian finds his footing within the world of retail, he becomes smitten with his married coworker, Marion (Sandra Hüller). While his love seemingly goes unrequited, he finds a mentor in Bruno (Peter Kurth), who works in the beverage aisle and teaches the young man to operate the forklift. From the routine of the workday to interpersonal happenings, In the Aisles is humorous, romantic, and decidedly human study about forming connection and community in even ordinary spaces. The film competed for the Golden Bear and won the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury at the 68th Berlin International Film Festival.
Director Biography
Thomas Stuber is a German filmmaker and screenwriter, born in Leipzig in 1981. In the Aisles (18) marks his first full-length feature. Prior to his feature debut, he worked in the television industry as a script supervisor and director's assistant.
