Based on the 1983 prison break of 38 IRA prisoners from the HMP Maze/Long Kesh security prison in Europe, Stephen Burke's heart-racing film Maze features a masterful cast led by Tom Vaughan-Lawlor (Love/Hate). Vaughan-Lawlor stars as Larry Marley, the leader behind the group of Provisional Irish Republicans planning the escape. As Marley plots, he builds a tension-filled rapport with Gordon Close (Barry Ward), a warden at the prison. Although their political stances differ, Close and Marley find similarities between each other and their respectives lives. When the escape occurs on September 25, 1983, it results in a violent confrontation between the prisoners and wardens that leaves many injured and one man dead. While an important chapter in history, the story of Maze also brings to light the inner workings of the men at the center of the conflict.

Press
"BASED on the infamous 1983 IRA jailbreak, Maze sets itself the unenviable task of serving historical fact while also existing as a piece of entertainment to be enjoyed by an audience previously oblivious to its 'based on real events' story." - Irish News
