Filmmaker Nicole London Attending!
In The Birth Of Cool, Stanley Nelson masterfully explores the little known interior life of jazz great Miles Davis, including his childhood, his relationships and the various influences that inspired and informed his music. While this documentary could have served as merely a display of reverence, Nelson expertly infuses a humanistic thread into his profile that allows us a look inside the man behind the music and iconic persona. While his talent was extraordinary, Davis was also a son, a husband, and a friend who himself was plagued with his own demons, as seen through his abusive marriage to dancer Frances Taylor. Dissecting the nature of legend and man, Nelson’s _Birth of Cool_ is part music history lesson, part character study, and an all-around must see.
