Description

Filmmaker and special guest attending

In their latest documentary feature, Sofian Khan and Andrès Caballero shed a light on the current obstacles facing former wartime Afghan and Iraqi interpreters. During the war, over 50,000 Afghan and Iraqi interpreters assisted the US armed services, their work an essential element during the war. Picking up after the war effort, the film examines the true depth of consequences, including daily risk to their lives, that the interpreters are experiencing to this day with little help from political forces. Targeted by insurgents, the interpreters are faced with few options–hide, or attempt an escape to Europe with the help of smugglers. Weaving together the story of the interpreters and the people working to help them, this documentary brings a pressing but rarely discussed humanitarian issue rightfully into the spotlight.
