Description

The Iowa City International Documentary Film Festival (ICDOCS ) is an annual event run by students at the University of Iowa with the mission to engage local audiences with the exhibition of recent short films that explore the boundaries of nonfiction filmmaking. Free and open to the public!

James N. Kienitz Wilkins is a filmmaker and artist based in Brooklyn. His work has screened at the New York Film Festival, Toronto, Locarno, Rotterdam, CPH:DOX, BAMcinemaFest, and beyond. In 2017, he was included in the Whitney Biennial and a retrospective of his work was showcased at the Montreal International Documentary Festival (RIDM). In 2018, he premiered new work in a solo show at Gasworks Gallery (London), and the Biennial of Moving Images (Geneva).

A mix of artists struggle to perform their roles, at once connected and alienated by the plague of modern life. Common Carrier weaves scripted performances by real people playing versions of themselves with intimate conversations about art making, labor, technology, and life.
