Minnesota has been home to and produced many filmmakers working in all aspects and disciplines of filmmaking, who, over the course of their careers, have tirelessly pursued the highest levels of artistic achievement in the cinematic arts. Each year, the Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival recognizes one of these Minnesotan filmmakers with a Cinematic Arts Tribute and presents a focused retrospective on some of their most groundbreaking works. MSPIFF 2019 is proud to honor the work of screenwriter, producer, and director Scott Z. Burns. Conversation with Scott Z. Burns – Saturday, April 20, Noon - 1:30pm

Join us for a conversation with screenwriter, producer, director, and Minnesota-native Scott Z. Burns we as trace his distinguished life, from his Twin Cities upbringing, to breaking into Hollywood, to career highlights, including screenwriter on The Informant!, and producer on An Inconvenient Truth, and discuss his newest film, The Report, which had its World Premiere at Sundance 2019 and will be released later in the year by Amazon. Written and directed by Burns, The Report stars Adam Driver as Dan Jones, the senate staffer who investigated the CIA’s brutal interrogation program in the wake of 9/11. Scott will be joined in conversation by Dan Jones, President of the Penn Quarter Group, and Alberto J. Mora, senior fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government’s Carr Center for Human Rights Policy, and associate executive director for global programs at the American Bar Association and director of the ABA Rule of Law Initiative.
