Description

Wooden stakes, crosses, pom-poms and a Valley Girl accent blend together to form Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Joss Whedon’s then-fresh take on the undead that took the damsel out of distress and into the role of, well, vampire slayer. Buffy Summers (Kristy Swanson, the heart of the film) has typical cheerleader concerns about shopping, boys, and her social standing until the mysterious Merrick (Donald Sutherland) approaches her and reveals that she is the Slayer, the chosen one destined to kill vampires. Yikes! Now she must team up with Merrick (her “Watcher”) and Pike (the late Luke Perry, then a regular in Beverly Hills, 90210) and battle local vampire king Lothos (Rutger Hauer) and his acolyte Amilyn (Paul Reubens). Step back into the early 90’s with this After Hours presentation that demonstrates some proto-Whedonesque elements that made the writer a cult favorite – both on the tube and silver screen.
