The men at a remote Antarctic research station take in a lone dog, completely unprepared for the horror hiding inside it. Kurt Russell leads a strong ensemble cast in John Carpenter's engrossing and masterful sci-fi horror, which boasts Ennio Morricone's throbbing, minimalist electronic score and a bevy of absolutely terrifying creatures by FX maestro Rob Bottin. Writer/director Paul Schrader (Taxi Driver, First Reformed) took a hard turn into the mythic with this adult fantasy about an innocent young woman (Nastassja Kinski) whose growing urges betray her otherworldly, feline ancestry. John Heard, Annette O'Toole and Malcolm McDowell co-star; the glossy 1980s production design is by Ferdinando Scarfiotti, and Giorgio Moroder's dreamy score features David Bowie on vocals.
