A film crew goes to a tropical island for an exotic location shoot and discovers a colossal ape who takes a shine to their female blonde star (Fay Wray). He is then captured and brought to New York City for exhibition as the Eighth Wonder of the World. But on the night of his Broadway premiere he breaks loose. And that’s when the trouble begins. King Kong has been spun-off (think Godzilla) and remade a number of times, resurfacing most recently as a Broadway musical that closed this past August. More than eighty years later, Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack’s original remains unsurpassed for its uncanny ability to thrill and enchant young and old alike.
Her mother was King Kong’s love interest and her father, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of It Happened One Night. Victoria Riskin, author of Fay Wray and Robert Riskin: A Hollywood Memoir, will introduce two evergreen American classics and take questions from the audience.
