Description

Opening Night Film

ES escapes from Palestine seeking an alternative homeland, only to find that Palestine is trailing behind him. The promise of a new life turns into a comedy of errors: however far he travels, from Paris to New York, something always reminds him of home. From award-winning director Elia Suleiman, a comic saga exploring identity, nationality, and belonging, in which Suleiman asks the fundamental question: where is the place we can truly call home?

Elia Suleiman (Nazareth, 1960) lived in New York from 1981 to 1993 where he made Introduction to the End of an Argument. In 1994, he moved to Jerusalem to create the Film and Media Department at Birzeit University. His Chronicle of a Disappearance (1996) won the Best First Film award in Venice and Divine Intervention (2002) won the Jury Prize at Cannes where The Time That Remains also screened in 2009. Mizna has screened Divine Intervention and The Time That Remains at past Arab Film Fests.
