Description

Marwa, her mother, and her siblings are stranded in Jordan’s Zaatari refugee camp after escaping war in Syria in 2012. Marwa is nine. Her concerns revolve around school, and her interests around playtime. Four months into camp life, Marwa is beginning to expect that they will stay there only for another week, maybe two. Over the ensuing four years, the director follows Marwa's everyday life in the camp, where she blossoms from a child to a young woman. Marwa imagines herself as a “free pigeon,” unrestricted by walls and barbwire. As the years pass, Marwa gets attached to her camp friends and make-shift home, until one day, her elder brother is called for interrogation about his association with militant extremists. Only then does their “settled” life take an immense turn, revealing the uncertainty of their situation.
