THE IRONMEN
Dr. Eddie Anderson arrives at the University of Iowa in 1939 to a program in shambles, having won a single game each of the two previous seasons. Despite low expectations, Anderson knows his team can compete with the best of the best, if key players never leave the field. Determined to have the fittest football team in the nation—and to implement his high speed, no huddle offense—he sees his team shrink from 85 players at the start of spring practice to 37 at the start of the season. Led by Iowa's only Heisman Trophy winner, Nile Kinnick, 16 players would play every minute of at least one game in that historic season and forever be remembered as The Ironmen.
