This inventively violent Japanese satire about (literally) crushing beauty standards evokes the work of Sion Sono, Takashi Miike and David Cronenberg.
An aspiring model who wants a smaller face goes to a controversial surgeon who uses a vise to make it happen. The model and the surgeon start dating, which feels like a second movie. Then the surgeon goes on the run, which feels like a third movie--and he might be the protagonist now? When the surgeon is recognized on the road, things get downright hallucinatory--a fourth movie. Finally the surgeon is subjected to a worthy comeuppance.
Buckle up for this one. Plenty of belly laughs when you’re not too busy wincing.
