Description

Making Waves: The Art of Cinematic Sound will be followed by a virtual conversation with special guest and documentary subject Gary Rydstrom, seven-time Academy Award winner (Saving Private Ryan; Titanic, Jurassic Park) and Sound Designer/re-recording mixer at Skywalker Sound and Nathan Platte, University of Iowa Professor in Music and Cinematic Arts, and co-host of FilmScene's podcast, FilmCastPodScene!

"A practically perfect primer for anyone interested in the history and craft of filmmaking." - The Wrap

"One of the year's best." - Film Frenzy

"Irresistible." - Boston Globe

Few realize that sound is 50% of the cinematic experience. Building on the pioneering sight-and-sound discoveries of iconic filmmakers, Making Waves: The Art of Cinematic Sound features the first generation of recognized Sound Designers who designed great movies with sound before a frame was shot, and expands on the collaborative relationship between Sound Designers and the visionary directors they work with by entering their creative realms via interviews and clips from their films. Latest discoveries and advances in sound technology are explored, demonstrating how sound transforms not only the cinematic experience, but also our lives.

Presented as part of Science on Screen® - An initiative of the COOLIDGE CORNER THEATRE, with major support from the ALFRED P. SLOAN FOUNDATION.
