Special Video Introduction by Co-Director Jessica Woodworth.
A sequel to the enormously popular mockumentary King of the Belgians (which closed the 2016 MSPIFF) sees the hilariously misfortunate Belgian King Nicolas III suddenly crowned Emperor of Europe.
Wounded after being caught up in a strange re-enactment of the assination of Archduke Ferdinand in Sarajevo, our well-meaning Belgian King retreats to a sanitarium on the Croatian isle of Brijuni run by a mad doctor (who could only be played by Udo Kier). But the fake assassination has sparked a similar shift in power to the original, ending the European Union as we know it. Our man is suddenly in the running to become Emperor of all Europe! Skewering Brexit, nationalism, and the EU, The Barefoot Emperor is directors Jessica Woodworth and Peter Brosens’ sharpest comedy yet.
