Jeanne is a misfit, to say the least. Introverted, she stays in her room, ignoring her outgoing mother’s pleas to go on dates with men, and fiddles instead with her scale models of the rides at the amusement park where she works. Then one day, she finds her true love: Jumbo, the park’s newest thrill ride.

For someone averse to people, and yet who loves adventure and good looks, what could be more alluring than a tall (25 feet!), strong (dig those hydraulics) and handsome (boy, those lights and chrome) thrill ride called Jumbo? While certainly funny, writer-director Zoé Wittock’s film is also a sobering meditation on love, surrealistic and sexy, and boasts a tremendous central performance by Noémie Merlant (Portrait of a Lady on Fire) as Jeanne, who grounds Jumbo and makes this love story one for the ages. “[A] ride worth taking.” --IndieWire
