About the film

WATCH MOVIE

Following three female police officers in Minneapolis, Women in Blue charts their progress and efforts to remake the department to become more inclusive. When the killing of Justine Damond results in the forced resignation of Chief Harteau, it threatens the gains women have made in the department.

Director Diedre Fishel follows Cmdr. Melissa Chiodo, the first woman head of Special Crimes; Sgt. Alice White, who leads procedural justice trainings; and rookie Officer Erin Grabosky who works the night patrol. Eager to be great police officers, under Chief Janée Harteau they see women take the reins. When Harteau resigns and Medaria Arradondo takes control and assigns men to be the top officers, it seems as though the department is taking steps backwards. Fishel’s film captures the frustrations--and the hopes--of these officers who believe that gender equity is one of the key elements to reducing police violence.
