About Two Beats One Soul

In early 2017, visionary music executive Vivian Scott Chew - an innovative figure in the global music and entertainment world- approached her husband, veteran R&B musician/arranger/producer Ray Chew - music director for ABC’s “Dancing with The Stars”- , with an intriguing idea: to bring together top American and Cuban musicians, record an album fusing the rich salsa, rhumba and Afro-Cuban jazz traditions of the island nation with contemporary American R&B and hip-hop, and kick off the release of the album into the global marketplace with a major concert event--and do this all in three months. Recruiting a team of top studio talent and bringing aboard renowned producer Sergio George, the pair used their considerable connections to quickly book time in downtown Havana’s legendary Abdala Studios and assemble a who’s-who of musical talent. With only two days given to write and record each of the album’s thirteen tracks, famed singer and producer Eric Benet, producer and DJ Louie Vega and his wife Anane, and superstar Jon B would come together alongside Cuban rap superstar Brebaje Man, drummer and singer Milagros de la Caridad Hodelin Borrayo, and veteran singer Xiomana Laugart, among many others, to produce a stirring, hip-shaking testament to the unifying power of music—and leading to a triumphant opening night performance at the Havana Jazz Festival, in this jubilant new film from directors Bille Woodruff and Sara Nesson.
