Viva El Vedado presents the history of the Havana neighborhood of El Vedado from the last quarter of the 19th century through the Cuban Revolution and highlights its varied and outstanding architecture. Known as a cultural center of Havana, Vedado is particularly notable for its unique collection of Cuban architecture of the 20th century.

Screening before the feature film Viva El Vedado.

While preparing a “sancocho,” traditional broth in several Latin American cuisines, a filmmaker reflects on the complexity and duality of growing up “LatinX” before the label existed.

Director Biography

Gabriella is a Colombian-American documentary filmmaker living in New York City. She directs and produces stories rooted in identity, diversity and the resiliency of the human spirit. After receiving her degree in Journalism at the University of Miami, she went on to work at Hillary for America, Global Citizen and The Atlantic, where she chronicled the efforts of those working to improve human lives. Her visual and written work can be found on The Atlantic, Global Citizen, Newsdeeply, and Hayden5 and has been featured by Forbes and the National Association of Latino Independent Producers. Through her films, she hopes to encourage people to explore universal issues through a personal prism. She begins graduate studies at Columbia University where she will further learn about documentary filmmaking.
