Rodrigo Reyes - Director
Award-winning Mexican-American director, screenwriter, and producer Rodrigo Reyes has screened his films in over 50 film festivals around the world. Named one of the 25 New Faces of Independent Film by Filmmaker Magazine, he was the recipient of the 2016 National Endowment for the Arts Fellow at MacDowell Colony, the 2017 National Mediamaker Fellowship by the Bay Area Video Coalition (BAVC), the Spotlight on Storytellers Award from the Sundance Institute, as well as the Guggenheim Fellowship and Creative Capital Award. Rodrigo’s work has received the support of Tribeca Film Institute, Sundance Institute, California Humanities Council, Film Independent, IFP Narrative and Documentary Labs, the Berkeley Film Foundation, the Bay Area Video Coalition, the Mexican Film Institute, and ITVS Open Call.
Jessica Retis, Ph.D. - MODERATOR, Associate Professor in the School of Journalism and Director of the Master’s in Bilingual Journalism at the University of Arizona
Jessica Retis is Associate Professor in the School of Journalism and Director of the Master’s in Bilingual Journalism at the University of Arizona. She is affiliated Faculty with the Center for Latin American Studies and the Human Rights Practice Program at UA. Retis holds a Major in Communications (University of Lima, Peru), a Masters in Latin American Studies (National Autonomous University of Mexico) and a Ph.D. in Contemporary Latin America (Complutense University of Madrid, Spain). She has two decades of professional experience as journalist in Peru, Mexico and Spain and three decades of teaching experience at universities in the United States, Spain and Mexico. Her areas of research include Latin America, international migration, diasporas and transnational communities; cultural industries; ethnic media; diversity and the media; Latino media in Europe, North America and Asia; bilingual journalism and journalism education.
Inti Cordera - Producer, Director of La Maroma Productions
Director and producer of documentary films, born in 1969. In 1995 founded La Maroma productions and in 2006 the film festival DocsMX. As film director and producer he has developed a wide range of long feature projects, series and TV shows. Also, he has participated as a juror at festivals and project evaluation committees, as well as workshops, discussion forums and workshops in Mexico, Latin America, Europe & Asia.
Justin Chin - Cinematographer
Justin is an artist with a passion for visual storytelling in both film and emerging media technology. He’s an award-winning creative leader in both video games and filmmaking, designing and writing landmark Star Wars games for LucasArts as well as shooting films with such icons as Rita Moreno and Lin-Manuel Miranda. As a visual storyteller, he spends his time designing what could be the best artistic approach for each project, whether it be a film, permanent museum installation, or virtual reality experience. When he’s not working, you can find Justin sketching in his journal, 3D modeling new worlds, and live streaming his creative process online.
