Description

Wyrd War returns on Friday April 30 with their SIXTH annual Walpurgisnacht film screening!

Every year on Witches’ Night, Wyrd War unveils a devilish occult-inspired cinematic gem to inflame the senses! This year is no exception with their streaming presentation of Kaneto Shindo’s enigmatic 1968 folk horror masterpiece KURONEKO (aka BLACK CAT IN A BAMBOO GROVE).

In a war-torn feudal countryside, a band of marauding samurai ambush a young woman and her mother-in-law, brilliantly played by Nobuko Otowa of ONIBABA fame, setting in motion a horrific cycle of corporeal brutality and supernatural wrath. Based on a traditional Japanese ghost tale, KURONEKO is a haunting meditation on the nature of love, loyalty, evil and the heart’s darkest desires.

Wyrd War summons all witches and feline familiars around the world to tune in together on April 30 for this communal streaming invocation! This is a B/W Japanese language film with English subtitles.

This presentation is available for 10 HOURS ONLY from 4/30 at 8pm to 5/1 at 6am PDT. Please plan your viewing accordingly.
