"This picture, more than anything Anderson’s done, privileges imaginative exuberance over ham-fisted emotional 'impact'; I savored every frame and gorged on every sound (being a fan of ’70s Bowie helps)." —Glen Kenny, Premiere Magazine

A misunderstood masterpiece that has earned cult status since its initial release, The Life Aquatic is pure Andersonian madness turned up to 11. A tribute to the famous deep sea explorer Jacques Cousteau, even down to red hat and blue shirt, one of his heros and the subject of the new documentary Becoming Cousteau, the film follows the internationally famous oceanographer Steve Zissou (Bill Murray) and his crew, Team Zissou, as they set sail on an expedition to hunt down the mysterious, elusive, possibly nonexistent Jaguar Shark that killed Zissou’s partner during the documentary filming of their latest adventure. They are joined on their voyage by a young airline copilot (Owen Wilson), a pregnant journalist (Cate Blanchett), and Zissou’s estranged wife (Anjelica Huston). The all-star cast is rounded out by Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum, Michael Gambon, Noah Taylor, Bud Cort, and Seu Jorge (who contributes beautiful David Bowie covers in his native Portuguese throughout) for this wildly original adventure-comedy.
