A decaying prison in modern-day Italy is on the verge of shutting down. When bureaucracy gets in the way, a dozen inmates, together with a handful of guards, are left behind. Isolated from the rest of the world, rules become fluid. New dynamics form. Gaetano (Toni Servillo: The Great Beauty, The Hand of God), head of the prison guards, and mafia boss Lagioia (Silvio Orlando: The Caiman, The Ties) must seek common ground to keep the peace between the inmates and the guards. In this tense prison drama, director Leonardo Di Costanzo continues to explore the human soul beyond the conventional, and expertly captures the danger and absurdity of prison life. Once again, Di Costanzo relays a story that poignantly addresses both the specific and the universal.
