Alice and Tommaso live in Rome and have been together for fifteen years. They’re not married, they don’t have children, he‘s a musician, she’s an actress. Invited to dinner for a special announcement, their friends think they are going to announce their marriage, but instead discover that they have decided to break up and stay friends without drama or emotional rifts. A legitimate but naive ambition. Love stories end because people change. And no change is, nor can it be, painless. Co-written by director Stefano Sardo and his former partner Valentina Gaia, Una relazione (With or Without You) is a unique look at their love story.

DIRECTOR
Stefano Sardo (Bra, 1972) lives in Rome, and writes for cinema and television. With Alessandro Fabbri and Ludovica Rampoldi he’s the creator of the Sky series 1992, 1993 and 1994. The same trio also penned the three seasons of the Italian adaptation of the international television series In Treatment and, for the cinema, La Doppia Ora (by Giuseppe Capotondi, in competition in 2009 Venice Film Festival), Il Ragazzo Invisibile (by Gabriele Salvatores, 2015) and the sequel Il Ragazzo Invisibile – Seconda Generazione (by Gabriele Salvatores, 2018). He currently works as head writer and for serial projects for Indigo (Nemesis), Cross Production (Wolfsburg), I Leoni di Sicilia (Leone). As a director, he directed some short films, then in 2013 he directed the documentary Slow Food Story for Indigo Film and Tico, presented at Berlinale and Telluride. He published several short stories and three novels: L’America delle Kessler (Arcana, 2002) and the two Il Ragazzo Invisibile novels, (Salani, 2014 and 2018), plus the upcoming Una Relazione, a novel co-written with Valentina Gaia, slate for release after the summer with HarperCollins. Since April 2017 he’s the President of 100autori, the main association of Italian film and television authorship. In his previous life as a musician, he wrote and sang songs with Mambassa - a band born in 1995 with 6 albums and a soundtrack to their credit, whose songs have been featured in the movie Una relazione.
